Application Requirements

Applicants for the Comparative Literature Master’s Program with Thesis are required to submit the following:

  • CV
  • Statement of Purpose

The statement should be approximately 500 words, succinctly conveying the reasons for applying to the Master’s Program, research interests, and career objectives. And as much as possible, it should include a tentative thesis topic and the texts under consideration.

  • Writing Sample

The sample should be approximately 3000 words, demonstrating the applicant’s skill in literary analysis and knowledge of critical approaches.

  • Transcript

The transcript should be submitted online as a high-quality scanned image. A final, official copy of the transcript will be required of all admitted students during registration. And a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00 is required.

  • Two Letters of Recommendation

The letters should be by persons well qualified to speak from first-hand knowledge about the applicant’s potential for graduate study.

  • ALES (applicable to Turkish applicants)

An official copy of the ALES scores must be sent to the Graduate School and also submitted online. You will be able to leave these spaces empty if your scores are not available at the time of application. The minimum score required is 80 for verbal (sözel).

  • GRE (applicable to international applicants)*

An official copy of the GRE scores must be sent to the Graduate School and also submitted online. You will be able to leave these spaces empty if your scores are not available at the time of application. The minimum score required is 156 for verbal and 4 for analytical.

  • (e-)YDS/YÖKDİL/TOEFL iBT (applicable to non-native English speakers)*

An official copy of the relevant exam scores must be sent to the Graduate School and also submitted online. For (e-)YDS/YÖKDİL, the minimum score required is 80; for TOEFL iBT, the minimum is 96.

* It is possible for international applicants who are admitted to the Master’s Program to take either the GRE or TOEFL exam at the start of the Fall Semester.

  • Foreign Language Requirement (applicable to native English speakers)

Native English speakers are required to be proficient in a foreign or second language, at CEFR B2-level or higher, and must provide certification.

All applicants are required to hold a bachelor’s degree. But students who expect to have one before the Fall Semester can also apply.

Short-listed applicants are required to interview as part of the admissions process.
