Course Structure

For students admitted with a master’s degree, the PhD program consists of:

  • 7 credit courses (3 required and 4 elective), amounting to a minimum of 21 credits in total
  • 4 non-credit courses : KOLT 500 (TA Training), TEACH 500 (teaching experience every semester), ENGL 500(academic writing), DTES 590(Seminar course)
  • a qualifying exam, a thesis proposal, minimum of three thesis monitoring committee meetings and a doctoral thesis

For students admitted with a bachelor’s degree, the PhD program consists of:

  • 14 credit courses (6 required and 8 elective), amounting to a minimum of 42 credits in total
  • 3 non-credit courses :KOLT 500 (TA Training), TEACH 500 (teaching experience every semester), ENGL 500(academic writing), DTES 590(Seminar course)
  • a qualifying exam, a thesis proposal, minimum of three thesis monitoring committee meetings and a doctoral thesis

For Students with MA/MS Degrees

Semester 1
