With over 500 graduate students and 28 graduate programs, Graduate School of Social Sciences and Humanities (GSSSH) is embracing a wide range of disciplines including Law, Economics, International Relations and Political Science, Design and Technology, History, Archeology, History of Arts, Sociology, Philosophy and Psychology. The mission of GSSSH is “to develop scholars and leaders to contribute to science and practice in fields of social sciences by providing competencies and skills necessary to conduct high-quality and visible research with potential to contribute to knowledge as well as social policies”. We are proud of our students and their achievements in Türkiye and internationally. Our primary responsibility is supporting the academic and career development of our students.

A groundbreaking study, recently published in Nature Communications, sheds light on a newly identified subtype of muscular dystrophy, revealing an unsuspected role of SNUPN gene in muscle cell function. Led by Assistant Prof. Dr. Nathalie Escande Beillard, Prof. Dr. Hülya Kayserili, and Prof. Dr. Piraye Oflazer, a team of PhD students and postdoc from Koç University Faculty of Medicine embarked on a broad investigation to decipher the genetic underpinnings of a mysterious condition identified in a case evaluated at Koç University Hospital.
Imagine a thin sheet, akin to a band-aid, crafted from your cells. When applied to a damaged tissue in your body, it can repair it using your cells. These cell plates, which sound like a science-fiction product, can also be used on damaged nerve tissue with the method developed by the team consisting of Prof. Seda Kızılel and Dr. Kiyumars Jalili, PhD Students Esra Yalçın Kaya and Işılay Göktan from Koç University Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.
