Asst. Prof. Aslı E. Mert from the Sociology Department has been chosen by the Horizon Europe Program as one of the partners of the “Twinning Research and Innovation Institutions to Design and Implement Inclusive GEPs (NEXUS) Project”. Prof. Demircan Canadinç, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, received the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Humboldt Research Award for his studies on characterizing metallic materials using multiscale experimental and computational methods, designing microstructures and alloys using artificial intelligence, improving the performance of metals under monotonic and cyclic loads, and designing metallic biomedical materials.

“The Nursing Week Symposium” planned in cooperation with Koç University School of Nursing, Semahat Arsel Nursing Education, Practice and Research Center and Koç Healthcare, was held online on Thursday, May 11th 2023. 320 international and national participants from several countries such as Mexico, the United States, Cyprus, Somalia, Ireland, Spain, Egypt, France, Chile, Tanzania, Italy and Turkey attended the symposium with the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future.”

We are delighted to share that Prof. Halil Kavaklı, head of the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department and Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, has been honored with the 2023 Elginkan Foundation Technology Award. This recognition is attributed to Prof. Kavaklı’s technological approach to increase apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells by targeting the molecular circadian rhythm.

Prof. Can Erkey, Chemical and Biological Engineering, has been honored with the prestigious The Technology Development Foundation of Türkiye (TTGV) Dr. Akin Cakmakci Award 2023.

The Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) announced Young Scientists Award (GEBİP) recipients for 2022. Asst. Prof. Safacan Kölemen, from the Department of Chemistry, has been recognized with this prestigious award.

Prof. Halil Kavaklı, head of the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department and Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, has received the prestigious TÜSEB Aziz Sancar Science Award in 2022, for his outstanding research on DNA repair and circadian rhythm.

From the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Asst. Prof. Member Mehmet Cengiz Onbaşlı received the 2022 TUBITAK Incentive Award for his outstanding work in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Assoc. Prof. Didem Unat received the 2021 ACM SIGHPC Emerging Woman Leader in Technical Computing Award, given to mid-career women scientists in the technical and high performance computing communities.
